THE FIRST
HALF
The first half was scrappy as usual but pretty even with a few half chances
here and there. The biggest opening chance fell to Mike Yee after he was
put through by a great through ball by his younger brother Tim. The ball
bounced up and Mike's first touch was slightly too heavy and attempted
chip just went over the crossbar. The Liverpool team began to get more
and more of the ball however and after some controlled passing play Liverpool
managed to grab a deserved goal. The Wirral Chinese then started to attack
with much more purpose and after some shots from Mike Yee and Roger Ho
going slightly wide, Chris picked up the ball from the halfway line. Then
he managed to beat a couple of players and from the edge of the area fizzed
a crashing shot into the top corner for the equaliser! That got us into
halftime at 1-1.
THE SECOND
HALF
The pitch was quite hard and bumpy which made it difficult for attackers
to get any decent shots on target, and it was inevitable that the next
goal would come from a set-piece situtation. As it turned out, Liverpool
took advantage of their crossing and heading ability and with about an
hour gone their second goal came from a header. The second half saw Mike
Yee, Roger Ho, Ian Chan & David Liu get close with some shots from
distance, but the break-through came with 15 minutes to go. Mike Yee dropped
deep to collect the ball after some good work from Dave & Chris in
midfield. Mike then played the perfect through-ball passed the Liverpool
defence onto Roger's pacey run. Roger managed to get to the ball just
in time and poke it passed the keeper for 2-2.
OVERALL
Stephen Barrow was fantastic at the back, covering the entire backline
using his pace to clean up defensively. Ant Tang also played well at the
back when he came on, and Chris Hesletine & David Liu were again solid
in central midfield. Ian Chan & Roger Ho covered so much ground and
the captain deserved his equalising goal after a superb run. Richard Armitage
played well in goal for his first game and communicated well with his
defence. Bring on Sunday!
